A semi tractor-trailer slammed into a Long Island Railroad commuter train during rush hour Wednesday evening in Farmingdale, New York. Nassau County Police and Farmingdale Fire Department received the call at 5:41p.m. The tractor-trailer hit the electric train operated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Long Island Railroad at the Merritts Avenue grade crossing. Multiple Fire and EMS agencies from multiple jurisdictions responded to the scene to assist. A Mobile Emergency Response Vehicle (MERV) from Nassau County was also sent to the scene due to the number of passengers on the train. Service was suspended on the Ronkonkoma Branch of the Long Island Railroad during the incident. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
