Beloved Community Member Murdered in Robbery

Long time shop owner murdered during armed robbery while trying to flee.

Puyallup, WA: Just after 5p.m., Pierce County Sheriff's Department and medics responded to the Handy Corner Store in the 8800 block of 112 street E for a reported shooting during an armed robbery.

Upon arriving emergency responders found 79 year old Soon Ja Nam with a fatal gunshot wound to her back. Subsequent investigation determined two black males entered the door wearing black beanies and surgical masks robbed the long time mom and pop shop at gun point. During the robbery Nam complied, gave up the money, and turned trying to get into the back room. When she turned her back, without warning or reason, one of the robbery suspects open fired striking her in the back.

Detectives are stating this is just a cold blooded murder. They killed Nam, who is a wife, mother, and grandmother for no reason.

A memorial has started at the front of the store once word of the murder spread.

Neighbors and long time patrons of this shop are grief stricken and angry. They describe Nam as a hardworking, dedicated, loving, kind person who didn't deserve this.

Detectives are searching for these two men who got away in an older silver Nissan Sentra with a black bumper. They are asking the public's help in providing any information on the suspects and providing any video of the area around the time of the violent robbery.

Crime stoppers of Puget Sound is offering a reward for information leading you the arrest and successful prosecution of those responsible. The sheriff's department has vowed to do what it takes to bring these suspects to justice.
