Driver Flown to Hospital After Unsafe Passing on Icy Highway


Unsafe passing on icy roadway leads to serious injury crash.

Kittitas County, WA: At around 10:30 a.m. this morning, Troopers with Washington State Patrol and a local fire department responded to a two vehicle crash on State Route 97 at Milepost 158 (5 miles south of Blewett Pass).

When Troopers arrived, they found two vehicles both with heavy damage. The driver of the SUV was still trapped in the drivers seat of the vehicle.

Due to the location of the crash as well as the injuries one of the drivers sustained, he was flown by Airlift Northwest to a trauma center with severe injuries.

During the crash investigation the highway was fully blocked, the roadway was reopened not long ago.

The cause of the crash was due to unsafe passing on an icy roadway. We have reached out to the Washington State Patrol to see if the at cause driver will be cited or even charged with any crimes.

My husband and I went over Blewett Pass at approximately 3:30 PM yesterday on November 29 we were commenting how the roads are so slick we were only going 35 miles an hour but the roads look like they had not been sanded and we were wondering why when is a very traveled mountain pass I’m not saying what this guy did was right but if they were like they were yesterday when we went over I question why were they not sanded if they weren’t
