Driver Threatens, Assaults, and Hurls Homophobic Slurs at Officers During Arrest

While attempting to investigate the driver's level of intoxication, she immediately became hostile towards the officers.

Fife, WA: On Saturday , April 18th, Fife police were dispatched to a vehicle collision with one of the vehicles in a ditch in the 6600 block of North Levee Road East. When officers made contact with the driver of the vehicle, identified as 25-year-old Darshell Mi'Shuane' Walker, officers immediately smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver.

According to the charging documents, Walker hit another vehicle on Levee Road after crossing the center line and striking the side of another vehicle before crashing into the ditch. Another witness reported almost being hit but Walker just prior to this crash. That witness said that he could see Walker behind the wheel and she looked barely conscious.

While attempting to investigate the driver's level of intoxication through voluntary field sobriety tests Walker agreed to take, she immediately became hostile towards the officers. Walker made several racial statements and used several racial slurs threatening to harm or have others harm the officer investigating the crash. When Walker became hostile, she was immediately placed into custody and transported to the Fife Police Department. While back at the station, Walker refused to cooperate and provide a breath sample.

Officers applied for and were granted a search warrant to obtain a sample of Walker's blood. While getting Walker into the patrol vehicle to transport her to a local hospital for a blood draw, Walker started to kick at the patrol vehicle door. An officer went around to the other side of the vehicle to pull Walker in to secure her and that is when she turned her head, spit at the officer, and started calling him homophobic slurs.

After being restrained, Walker was escorted to Allenmore Hospital where a blood draw was performed. After the blood draw, Walker looked into the eyes of an officer stating that she would take the officer's weapon and shoot them with it. Soon after, Walker was discharged from Allenmore and escorted back to the patrol vehicle for transport to Pierce County Jail. While being secured in the patrol vehicle, Walker lifted both her knees and struck an officer in the throat. The officer, lost their breath, was able to secure Walker for transport.

Walker failed booking at Pierce County Jail.

Neither officer were injured and the driver was eventually booked into Pierce County Jail on DUI, Malicious Harassment, Assault Third Degree and Threats charges.

On Monday, April 20th, the driver was arraigned in Pierce County Superior Court. Walker was charged with two counts of Felony Assault, two counts of Felony Harassment, and one count of Driving Under the Influence.
