Family Acquaintance Checking on House Finds Two Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide

Family acquaintance checking on a house in Des Moines finds two dead in the front yard after apparent murder-suicide.

Shortly before 11 a.m., Des Moines Police were called to a residence at 4th and S 213th Street by a family acquaintance who was checking on the house for a report of a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and found two subjects dead in the front yard of the residence. Des Moines Police Commander Mike Graddon said that a firearm was recovered at the scene and that this is being investigated as a murder-suicide. Graddon said that the relationship of the two dead were mother and son and that it was reported that the female who is deceased is an elderly female but they did not have an age for the male. Police say it appears that the shooting took place over 24 hours prior to the 911 call and that there was no public risk as this appears to be an isolated incident.

Des Moines Police are still investigating the scene and more information will be released when it becomes available.
