Fatal Deputy Involved Shooting Following Disturbance Call/Crash in Pierce County

Deputies are investigating what led up to a Deputy involved shooting along Mountain Highway East in Eatonville.

Eatonville, WA: On November 29 at approximately 12:30 a.m., Pierce County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 5200 block of 390th Street Court East on a call of shots fired by a resident during a confrontation with an unknown male in a suspicious vehicle.

The suspect left the residence and struck an occupied vehicle travelling in the 38300 block of Mountain Highway East. The collision caused the suspect vehicle to roll over.

Deputies arrived in the area of the call and saw the collision scene. The deputies made contact with the suspect who was uncooperative. They called out shots had been fired and requested medical aid. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. He is described as a white male in his 40’s. The Medical Examiner will release his identity when it is appropriate.

The occupants of the second vehicle were seen by medical aid for minor injuries from the collision.

The three deputies involved in the incident were not injured. They will be placed on paid administrative leave per the Sheriff’s Department policies.

The Tacoma Police Department will be conducting the investigation. There is no further information available at this time.
