Fiery DUI Collision Rips Vehicle in Half Sending Two to the Hospital

Vehicle is torn into pieces after a DUI driver slams into the rear before both vehicles burst into flames.

Elk Plain, WA: Washington State Patrol is investigating an overnight collision that sent two to the hospital with serious but not considered life-threatening injuries.

This occurred just after midnight in the South 24300 block of Mountain Loop Highway in Elk Plain.

When emergency crews arrived, they found one vehicle torn in half and one hundreds of feet away in a field. Both vehicles were on fire upon arrival according to the Washington State Patrol.

The Victim's vehicle's gas tank was torn off in the crash and caught nearby brush on fire and the suspects vehicle traveled several hundred feet before rolling over multiple times and bursting into flames.

Nearby residences who did not wish to go on camera told our photographer that they were in their shop and heard a loud crash, looked outside and just saw flames from the direction of the crash.

Both drivers were transported from the scene with what was described as serious but not life-threatening injuries. The causing driver was reported to be going in excess of the speed limit at the time of the collision and is in custody on suspicion of DUI.

The Victim vehicle was so badly damaged that only the driver's seat remained with the vehicle. Troopers are stating it is a miracle no one was killed and that just moments before this horrific impact the victim just dropped off his passengers at a nearby residence.

Washington State Patrol did have the highway closed for several hours while they investigated and tried to piece the vehicles back together.
