Firefighters Extinguish Possible Drug House Fire Near Lake Tapps

Firefighters extinguish well involved house fire near Lake Tapps.

Lake Tapps, WA: Saturday night around 8 p.m., firefighters with East Pierce Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a residential house fire in the 5700 block of 184th Avenue CT E near Lake Tapps.

When the first engine arrived, they initially saw no smoke or fire from road in front of the house. Upon further investigation, firefighters found heavy fire from the 2nd story of a two-story home.

Due to the rapidly deteriorating fire conditions, crews made the decision to fight fire defensively (from the outside) utilizing hand-lines. After the bulk of the fire was knocked down, firefighters were able to make access to the inside of the house to extinguish the rest of the fire as well as hotspots.

Firefighters tell us that the house was unoccupied at the time of the fire, BUT people do live in the house which is now considered a complete loss. A Battalion Chief also told us they think this may be a possible drug house, but Pierce County Sheriff will make that determination.

As of right now, the exact cause of the fire is unknown. Fire Investigators will be looking into the fire.
