Interstate 5 Lanes Closed After Suspect Hits Multiple First Responder Vehicles

The Northbound Lanes of I-5 were closed after a suspect vehicle entered a semi-fire scene striking several fire trucks.

Lakewood, WA: At around 1 a.m. according to Washington State Patrol, fire crews and Troopers responded to a report of a semi-truck on fire on northbound Interstate 5 freeway at Berkeley.

When crews arrived they found a large semi that had a trailer fire. Several fire units and State Troopers were on the scene blocking multiple lanes of the Interstate.

Just before 4 a.m. while crews were still fighting the blaze in the trailer of the semi, a vehicle that was previously being pursued by Tumwater Police and Thurston County Sheriff's Office entered the scene striking a Washington State Department of Transportation vehicle and several Fire trucks.

The vehicle was originally stopped by Tumwater Police but they took off. Tumwater briefly pursued them but stopped as it was not safe to chase them. A Thurston County Deputy spotted them a little while later and attempted to stop them but they took off. Another brief pursuit occurred but they stopped chasing because it was not safe to do so.

State Patrol states that the suspect vehicle was occupied by a male and female that both sustained serious injuries in that collision. Thankfully, no first responders on the scene reported any injuries.
