Large Disturbance Leads to Gunfire with One Dead in Tacoma Parking Lot

One person was killed after gunfire rings out during a disturbance in Tacoma.

Tacoma, WA: Just after 3 a.m., Tacoma Police responded to a disturbance with shots fired at S 38th and S Yakima Avenue. When units arrived, they observed one person down with a gunshot wound and a large hostile crowd still engaging in an active disturbance.

One person was taken down and detained by police on-scene. That male was eventually released. At this time we do not know why this person was detained.

Due to the crowd growing more hostile with police arrival, mutual aid was requested to the scene to help secure it. Officers from the Washington State Patrol, Lakewood Police, Pierce County Sheriff's Office, and Tribal Police responded.

At this time, the condition of the victim is not known. The victim was transported from the scene to an area trauma center. CPR was observed being performed prior to their departure.
