Late Night Fire Destroys Home After Reported Explosion

Fire crews arrive to find home fully involved after reports of an explosion.

Shortly after 11p.m. Tuesday night, South King Fire and Rescue responded to reports of an explosion, as neighbors reported a fully involved house fire in the 37400 block of 47th Ave S. According to South King Fire Public Information Officer Lieutenant Brad Chaney, when crews arrived the house was fully involved, but downed power lines in the driveway slowed the crew's attack on the fire. Chaney stated that due to the extent of the fire and partial collapse of the house, crews were unable to enter but were able to put the fire out in approximately thirty minutes. Due to the extent of the fire and the reports of an explosion, South King Fire Marshals Office is working with the King County Sheriff Fire Investigation Unit to determine the cause of the fire. Chaney said that there were conflicting reports of whether or not the home was occupied, but in the course of the investigation it was determined that it was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
