Male Critical After Accidental Shooting While Chasing Bear

A male is in critical condition after accidentally shooting himself trying to chase a bear off his property.

Skykomish, WA: Around 9:30 p.m. tonight, emergency crews responded to the area of 637th Avenue NE and NE Index Creek Road about six miles west of Skykomish for a reported accidental shooting.

Upon arriving, crews found a male with an accidental gunshot wound to his leg. They were told the male, for unknown reasons, was trying to chase a bear off his property. During the chase, the male armed with a 30-06 hunting rifle, tripped, and as he was falling fired a round into his leg.

The male was transported to Harborview Medical in Seattle where he is listed in critical condition and in surgery.
