One Person is Deceased Following Late Evening Garage Fire in Des Moines

The fire started in the late evening hours in a detached garage feet from the house and claimed the life of one person.

Des Moines, WA: Shortly after 8 p.m. last night, crews with South King Fire and Rescue, Burien/Normandy Park Fire, and Puget Sound Fire Authority responded to a home in the 20600 block of 8th Avenue South for a reported garage fire.

When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from a detached garage that was merely feet from the main occupied residence .

Crews immediately initiated a coordinated and offensive fire attack on the garage.

Crews were able to bring the flames under control relatively quickly.

Sadly, while conducting their search of the garage, crews found one victim, a 50-year-old male, inside. King County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that victim was pronounced deceased.

Sheriff's Office states their fire investigations unit is trying to determine a cause at this time.
