Pursuit Ends in Violent Crash Resulting in Physical Rescue *Updated*

A driver fleeing police crashes into a pole. Crews had to free him with Jaws of Life.

Edgewood, WA: Around 2:30a.m, Washington State Patrol pulled over a driver on SR-167. For unknown reasons, the driver sped off in the middle of the traffic stop. Troopers engaged in a vehicle pursuit with the suspect northbound on SR-167 from Jovita Boulevard.

While trying to maneuver on 8th Ave E from SR-167, the suspect lost control, jumped a 25 foot long pond, and then rolled over into a power pole.

Due to the speed and mechanism of impact, the driver became entrapped in the vehicle.

Troopers called out East Pierce Fire and Rescue who had to physically rescue the driver out of the vehicle by removing the roof with various tools and the Jaws of Life.

According to the Battalion Chief on scene, the driver sustained moderate injuries but was awake and talking while being rescued.

At this time the driver is in custody for various traffic offenses and eluding.
