Family and residents flee apartment building as male points gun at others, barricades himself in apartment.

Renton, WA: Renton Police were called to the Sunset View Apartments, 2100 Sunset Boulevard, for a male that pointed a gun at his family members including children. The male refused to come out when police arrived. After several attempts to get him to surrender failed, the Valley Regional SWAT team was called out to assist.

Because of the dangerous situation, the apartment building and all other residents were evacuated to safety.

SWAT members deployed chemical agents into the apartment in an attempt to force the male suspect out. After several hours of no communication, the SWAT team entered the unit.

They were able to take the male into custody at that point without incident.

The male was transported to an area hospital with rapid heart rate that first responders suspect is drug induced citing possible excited delirium.

Once released the male suspect is facing felony assault charges.

The weapon in question is a black assault rifle with an illegal modified bump stock. Picture provided by Renton Police.
