Suspect Shot and Killed After Trying to Run Over Mason County Deputy

The Region III Critical Incident Investigation Team will be leading the investigation into the deadly shooting.

Mason County, WA: On Tuesday evening March 24, 2020, a Mason County Deputy was involved in an Officer Involved Shooting in the Mason Lake area.

During an investigation, the deputy was on foot when a suspect attempted to run over the deputy. The deputy was struck by the vehicle and at some point shots were fired.

A short vehicle pursuit ensued and ended a few miles down the road from where the shots were fired.

Deputies immediately began rendering aid and life-saving measures on the suspect.

Medics transported the suspect from the scene, but the suspect died while being transported to Mason General Hospital.

This investigation has been turned over to the Region III Critical Incident Investigation Team or CIIT. This team consists of detectives from Thurston County, Lewis County, Grays Harbor County, Mason County, Pacific County Sheriff's Departments and the Washington State Patrol.

The lead agency will be Thurston County.

The CIIT Commander for this Fatal Officer Involved Shooting is Thurston County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant Ray Brady.
