Tacoma Police with the Help of Arson K9 Arrest Early Morning Arsonist

The suspect was tracked down nearby and taken into custody without incident.

Tacoma, WA: At around 6:20 a.m., Tacoma Police and Fire were called to the 100 block of South 38th for a reported fire.

When crews arrived, they found a small fire against a building that was quickly extinguished without spreading to the rest of the building.

Tacoma Fire was able to put out the description of a suspicious male leaving the area of the fire.

During their investigation, crews were able to determine the Fire was intentionally set with the help of Deputy Fire Marshal Lorenz and their Fire Investigation K9, K9 Hansel, with Central Pierce Fire and Rescue. K9 Hansel is a certified ATF Accelerant Detection Canine.

With their help, the suspect was located nearby by a Tacoma Police Sergeant and booked into Pierce County Jail on Arson charges. At the time the suspect was located, he was trying to set another fire at 40th and Pacific Avenue.

No injuries reported. Now investigators want to know if this person is responsible for other fires that have been set in the area.
