*UPDATED* One in Custody After Fatal Hit-and-Run in Federal Way

SUSPECT IN CUSTODY
On 8/25/2019, just after 9:00 PM, a fatality traffic collision occurred at S 316th St and Pacific Hwy S in Federal Way. A vehicle traveling south on Pacific Hwy S collided with a vehicle turning left from northbound Pacific Hwy S to westbound S 316th St.
Both vehicles were occupied by a driver and a passenger. The 25-year-old male driver of the southbound vehicle fled the collision scene on foot and the female passenger was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The female driver of turning vehicle was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and the 53-year-old female passenger succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Medics.
Our Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to conduct the investigation.
The fleeing driver has been identified. He is currently in custody and will be booked into jail.
Through multiple interviews and the use of Safe City camera footage, investigators were able to determine how the suspect fled the area and positively identified him as the suspect driver.
We appreciate our employees tenacious work by quickly completing this investigation and making an arrest and our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased.
Shortly after 9 p.m., Federal Way Police and South King Fire responded to a fatal hit-and-run on Pacific Highway and 316th Avenue.
Per Federal Way Police Commander Kurt Schwan, "Officers are investigating a fatality collision at S 316th St and Pacific Hwy S. A vehicle traveling south on Pacific Hwy S, which witnesses reported traveling at a high rate of speed, collided with a vehicle turning from northbound Pacific Hwy S to westbound S 316th St."
The driver of the southbound vehicle fled the scene on foot. Life-saving efforts on the driver of turning vehicle were unsuccessful and she was pronounced deceased by fire personnel.
The Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) has responded to conduct the investigation. We will not be releasing any additional information at this time.
