Victim Dies Weeks After Armed Home Invasion in Tacoma

Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office confirms that William Meredith passed away last week.

At around 11:48 p.m., a desperate call for help came from the Meredith's home. A male had broken in with a gun and was threatening the occupants.

Those occupants, though, would not go down without a fight.

Three male occupants, all family members, engaged the suspect in a physical struggle. Fearing the suspect might start shooting one of the occupants, a 74-year-old female, grabbed a knife and started stabbing the suspect in the back.

When the suspect was stabbed, he dropped his gun which was was found out to be a BB or Airsoft gun and not a real firearm according to Tacoma Police.

When police arrived, they found the suspect, now known as Chris Gallagher down with multiple stab wounds and one occupant of the home, William Meredith, unresponsive suffering a medical emergency.

Both were transported to area hospitals.

Gallagher recovered and is charged with several felonies in relation to this case.

William Meredith sadly died last week per the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office.

The cause of death is still pending.
