DETAILS:
- A man was being held in lieu of $1 million bail after he allegedly plowed into a family as they crossed the street in a marked crosswalk;
- The suspect, Jason Douglas Rarey, 32 of Anaheim, was allegedly under the influence (DUI) of marijuana when he struck the family;
- Due to a previous DUI conviction, Rarey was being charged with murder;
- The victim, 51-year-old San Tec Tamayo, was launched nearly 25-feet and pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of the collision;
- Family members walking with Tamayo were sparred physically but were in emotional shock as a result of seeing their family member struck and killed;
- Rarey, who was driving a black Cadillac coupe, stopped at the scene and cooperated with police before being placed under arrest for driving under the influence of marijuana;
- The area of the crash was closed while the Buena Park Police Department investigated however it has since reopened;
- Rarey is expected due in court this week for an initial arraignment hearing.
