A man video recording an oil refinery from a public street in Salt Lake City was detained by an off-duty cop working security for the refinery, who claimed she stopped him and collected his personal information because it was a “Homeland Security issue.”

However, it was clear she was just another hired goon for Tesoro Corporation, which proclaims it is “Fueling the Future,” as it, according to the activist group Peaceful Uprising, pollutes Salt Lake City.

“This is a Homeland Security issue because we have issues with people trying to take pictures of what’s inside the refinery,” she said. “The joint terrorism task force looks into this, when I write my report, they’re going to look into this.”

So what is a “joint terrorism task force”?

According to the FBI:

They are our nation’s front line on terrorism: small cells of highly trained, locally based, passionately committed investigators, analysts, linguists, SWAT experts, and other specialists from dozens of U.S. law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

When it comes to investigating terrorism, they do it all: chase down leads, gather evidence, make arrests, provide security for special events, conduct training, collect and share intelligence, and respond to threats and incidents at a moment’s notice.

I guess that’s one way to look at it.

But a more honest way to look at it is that they are ripping off the taxpayers’ blind as they are using government resources to protect private interests while getting paid by those same private interests.

Maybe somebody should chase that lead down.
