A police officer is under fire after being accused of assaulting a woman at an apartment pool

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) has charged Officer Alex Milhazes, 29, with simple assault in connection with an incident that occurred at the pool of an apartment complex in the 9500 block of Lucy Jane Lane Charlotte, NC.

Surprisingly Milhazes got an award for officer of the month in August 2016.

Reports from WCNC News show that on Sunday, June 9, 2019, at approximately 6:00 p.m., a woman reported that Milhazes, who identified himself as the apartment complex security officer had pushed her and then slammed a gate on her ankle during an altercation.

The victim of the incident appeared before a magistrate who issued a criminal summons for Milhazes.

Milhazes had been on unpaid administrative leave since February 5, 2019, following an unrelated Internal Affairs investigation. Milhazes was hired by the CMPD on July 22, 2013.

As is standard procedure when an officer is accused of a crime, a separate internal investigation is being conducted to determine whether Milhazes violated any CMPD policies or procedures.

Milhazes made headlines in 2017 after he bought police toys for a special needs young man.
