San Antonio Cop Choked His Girlfriend Over Cell Phone Argument, Police Say

Jonathan Montalvo

A Texas cop was arrested by his own department after his girlfriend said he choked her during an argument

San Antonio Police Department Officer Jonathan Montalvo, 23, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly choking his girlfriend during an argument about his cellphone.

Montalvo was charged with felony assault family violence-choking/strangulation.

On November 23 San Antonio police were dispatched to an apartment in San Antonio after a neighbor reported hearing yelling and screaming coming from a nearby apartment, KENS 5 News reports.

Montalvo told police that he and his girlfriend, 24, were arguing about his cellphone.

Officers contacted his girlfriend who had redness to her neck. She told police that during the argument Montalvo grabbed her by the neck, threw her on the bed and placed his hand over her mouth constricting her breath. Montalvo was then arrested.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said:

“The arrest of this officer by the SAPD Special Victims Unit is another reminder that no one is above the law and domestic violence will not be tolerated.”

Montalvo is assigned to West Patrol and has been with the department for about two years, he has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal affairs investigation.

Since when did it become illegal to retreat when a couple of big angry white cops come at a single and harmless woman?

“The arrest of this officer by the SAPD Special Victims Unit is another reminder that no one is above the law and domestic violence will not be tolerated.” He was released ROR and allowed to keep his weapon, which we don't permit other accused domestic violence people to do. The girlfriend was told to move out and stay 100 feet away from him because she obviously was the reason for the dispute.
