WATCH: Indiana Cop Shoots Fellow Cop in Back while Serving Warrant

Lafayette police blamed a dog for the accidental shooting.

The Lafayette Police Department of Indiana released body cam footage today showing an officer accidentally shooting a female officer in the back as they attempted to serve a warrant earlier this week.

The shooting has since been determined "accidental" by the police review board, according to theindychannel.com.

Video shows officer Aaron Wright shooting fellow officer Lane Butler in the back after a dog broke out of its cage and charged towards them.

As officers Wright and Butler attempted to rush out of the house away from the dog, Wright's hand apparently hits the door and discharges his gun, striking officer Butler in the back.

Officer Kurt Sink's body cam shows the bullet go through the door.

"From the moment the dog began to force its way out of the cage, the officers were faced with just a few options in fractions of a second," Lafayette Police Chief Patrick Flannelly said after viewing the videos.

Chief Flannelly says officer Wright never meant to discharge his gun.

"When we asked him he flat out said he had no intention of shooting the dog," he said.

"Officer Wright, from the moment on scene, he took full responsibility and was devastated by the unintentional discharge of his firearm."

Flannelly said the footage shows accidents can unfold in a fraction of a second and didn't personally fault officer Wright, who is expected to return to active duty next week.

The suspect for which the officers were serving a warrant was not apprehended, but does not pose an immediate threat to the public, according to the Journal & Courier.

My one and only question is, 'Why the hell did they have their guns out to begin with? Obviously expected to shoot somebody or something. Too these idiots in blue, serving a warrant is extremely dangerous. LOL. No such thing as a smart and good cop. They are useless, dangerous, criminals that have the power to kill us without blame. America the Free. Hah!

As a former LEO, I have to say that these officers need more training on gun safety. On a case like this one, a gun can only be discharge when someone has the finger on the trigger. If the officer had no intention to shoot the dog; why was his gun in his hand and the finger on the trigger? This is proof of how undisciplined these guys are when using lethal force for no reason at all.

One more Retarded Trigger Happy Cop who is a Public Safety Threat while violating all of the Safety Protocols that he disobeyed! Should he remain on the force? Probably not, but he should have his peace officer revoked so no one else gets hurt.

the video does not show the door moving.. and the female oficer even attemps to secure the door and open it a bit wider. also why is the fire arm pointed towards her and not downward in the first place???? the officers hand with the fire arm comes up. MOVE UP a split second before the shot... why is the officers finger on the trigger while facing another oficer WITH NO ASAILENTS, NO BODY IN THE HOUSE???? THE VIDEO DOES EVEN EVER SHOW THEDOG GETING OUT OF THE CAGE.... IT DOES SHOW A OFFICER GOING OVER TO IT IN WHAT CAN APEAR TO BE HARASING IT AND TOUCHING THE CAGE....

They violated the cardinal rule of first aid: do not attempt to bring the patient to the hospital if an ambulances is on the way. Do not attempt to move the patient. They undoubtedly caused a much more severe injury by all the manhandling. Also, it looks like the inflicting officer continues to have his gun in hand while trying to assist the victim officer.
