Alabama Corrections Officers Arrested for Smuggling Drugs in Jail

Two corrections officers in south Alabama have been arrested on drug charges.

According to the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC), 25-year-old Darryl Bradley was arrested over the weekend for attempting to smuggle illegal contraband into Station Correction Facility in Elmore, Alabama.

Bradley had been a corrections officer since January 2018, he resigned from his position following his arrest. Bradley is charged with promoting prison contraband and unlawful possession of marijuana.

But there is more, on Monday, 50-year-old Wiggins Washington was arrested in Bay Minette following a joint law enforcement investigation. Washington is a veteran corrections officer at Fountain Correctional Facility in Atmore, Alabama, WSFA News reports.

Washington is charged with conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine. Authorities said he's also facing additional federal charges for allegedly being in possession of a firearm at the time of his arrest. Washington was taken into custody by agents from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations Task Force, U.S. Marshals Service, ADOC Investigations and Intelligence Division, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, and Bay Minette Police Department.

In a release ADOC officials said:

"Washington did not immediately resign, but administrative disciplinary actions are pending."
