Detective Justin Hamilton of the DeKalb County Police Department was arrested on July 7 by Atlanta police after the vehicle he was driving left the roadway and struck a pedestrian who was walking on the sidewalk.

The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. in Atlanta. Hamilton was off-duty and driving his personal vehicle at the time of the crash, Fox 5 Atlanta News reports.

Police say a field sobriety test was conducted at the scene and it led to the arrest of Hamilton. He was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and reckless driving. Officers located hydrocodone and acetaminophen inside the vehicle he was driving.

The pedestrian complained of leg pain and was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, and listed as alert, conscious and breathing.

Hamilton was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation following the DUI charge.

A cop in Kentucky was arrested for crashing his police cruiser while he was allegedly under the influence of hydrocodone.
