The Texas sheriff’s deputy that was charged with sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl while threatening her immigrant mother with deportation if she reported him was found dead in his cell Monday evening.
Jose S. Nunez, 47, was originally charged with aggravated sexual assault but was later charged with super aggravated sexual assault of a child and had been in jail since June 17.
On that day, the child's mother reported the officer to her local fire department stating that she was in fear she would be deported back to Guatemala by reporting the rape.
Nunez is suspected of touching the child numerous times at her house and investigators were looking into how long ago it started.
Nunez death has not been confirmed as a suicide as they are waiting on the medical examiner reports but the department believes there was no foul play involved in his death.
