President Donald Trump was impeached on a vote of 230-197 on Obstruction of Congress

The United States House of Representatives voted to impeach President Donald Trump on December 18, 2019 in the evening.

The Democratic-controlled House passed two articles of impeachment, one for President Trump abusing his power by pressuring Ukraine to investigate political rivals and the other for obstructing Congress during an investigation of the allegations, NBC News reports.

The vote was 230-197 on the first article, with one present vote. Two Democrats voted no. Every republican in the house voted no.

A third Democrat joined the no column on the second vote, which passed 229-198 with one present vote.

The fate of President Trump now moves into the hands of the Republican-controlled Senate, which is expected to acquit him during a trial in January 2020.

A two-thirds vote would be needed to convict Trump and remove him from office.

Speaker of The House Nancy Pelosi says:

“Today we are here to defend democracy for the people.”

President Trump, tweeting from the White House, used all capital letters and exclamation points to register his outrage saying:

“SUCH ATROCIOUS LIES BY THE RADICAL LEFT, DO NOTHING DEMOCRATS. THIS IS AN ASSAULT ON AMERICA, AND AN ASSAULT ON THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!!!!”

Trump is openly doing what other politicians have always done; he's just too stupid to hide it. And the Republicans are too scared of The Base (idiots and bigots) to do anything about it. I expect far worse before it's over...
