Can Austria get their first three points on the board?

On Thursday night, despite leading twice, both through Saša Kalajdžic, Austria were held to a 2-2 draw at Hampden Park by Scotland.

Das Team haven’t qualified for a World Cup since 1998 although they have appeared at Euro 2008, 2016 and will be at Euro 2020.

However, if they’re to make it to Qatar, Franco Foda’s side are going to have to be on top form.

Group F is one of the most competitive groups with Denmark, Israel, Scotland and Austria all with a realistic chance of a top two finish.

Remember, top spot automatically books a place at World Cup 2022 with the runners-up going into the play-offs.

Given this, Austria can’t afford to drop points against the group’s minnows.

Faroe Islands and their matchday one opponents Moldova are the minnows in question.

Those two went head to head in Chi?inau three days ago and it finished 1-1; Meinhard Olsen’s 83rd minute equalise snatching a point for the Faroes.

The Faroe Islands have only ever won 14 of 149 qualification matches but, under Håkan Ericson, did win promotion to UEFA Nations League C in 2020.

Austria should ease to victory at Ernst-Happel-Stadion.
