WATCH: Former Georgia Cop and Son Chase Down Black Jogger and Kill him

Carlos Miller

The father and son claimed the black man was burglarizing homes but there is no evidence to support that.

More than two months ago, a 25-year-old black man named Ahmaud Arbery was jogging through a residential neighborhood in Georgia when he was chased down and killed by two white men who accused him of breaking into homes. A video of the shooting was recorded by a third man who was also pursuing Arbery, suspecting him of burglarizing homes.

That video was just leaked online, showing Arbery was killed after struggling with the former cop who was wielding a shotgun.

Nevertheless, prosecutors declined to charge Greg McMichael because they claim he was acting in self defense – even though it is clear from the video he and his son chased him down and confronted him with guns. Prosecutors also claim they have video of Arbery burglarizing a home but they have not made that video public.

But if it's anything like the video that was just leaked, then the video is far from conclusive. As of now, there is no evidence that Arbery was involved in any break-ins. He was just an avid jogger, according to his family.

According to the New York Times:

In a separate document, Mr. Barnhill stated that video exists of Mr. Arbery “burglarizing a home immediately preceding the chase and confrontation.” In the letter to the police, he cites a separate video of the shooting filmed by a third pursuer.

Mr. Barnhill said this video, which has not been made public, shows Mr. Arbery attacking Travis McMichael after he and his father pulled up to him in their truck.

The video shows Mr. Arbery trying to grab the shotgun from Travis McMichael’s hands, Mr. Barnhill wrote. And that, he argued, amounts to self-defense under Georgia law. Travis McMichael, Mr. Barnhill concluded, “was allowed to use deadly force to protect himself.”

He noted that it was possible that Mr. Arbery had caused the gun to go off by pulling on it, and pointed to Mr. Arbery’s “mental health records” and prior convictions, which, he said, “help explain his apparent aggressive nature and his possible thought pattern to attack an armed man.”

According to documents obtained by The New York Times, a prosecutor who had the case for a few weeks told the police that the pursuers had acted within the scope of Georgia’s citizen’s arrest statute, and that Travis McMichael, who held the shotgun, had acted out of self-defense.

Also, a review of reported burglaries in the area came up with only one incident, a stolen handgun from McMichael's truck on January 1, according to The Brunswick News.

Only one burglary, an automobile burglary, was reported to county police in the Satilla Shores neighborhood between Jan. 1 and Feb. 23, according to documents obtained by The News in a public records request to the Glynn County Police Department. It involved a Smith & Wesson M&P 9 mm pistol stolen Jan. 1 from a pickup truck outside 230 Satilla Drive, the home of Travis McMichael, according to the police report.

Gregory McMichael moved the 2011 Ford F-150 from one spot to another in front of the home at around 9:30 a.m. Jan. 1, forgetting to lock it afterward, Travis McMichael told police. About an hour later, Travis McMichael found the handgun’s empty holster on the unlocked truck’s seat, the report said.

McMichael spent seven years as a Glynn County police officer before spending two decades working as an investigator with the Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, retiring on May 31, 2019, according to the Brunswick News.

This is how McMichael explained the incident to police, according to First Coast News.

McMichael told police he saw Arbery running down Satilla Drive, he then ran inside his home and asked his son Travis McMichael to help him confront Arbery.

McMichael and his son got a shotgun and handgun because they “didn’t know if Arbery was armed or not.”

The police report says the father and son got into their truck and drove down Satilla Drive toward Burford Drive. Gregory McMichael stated when they arrived at the intersection of Satilla Drive and Holmes Drive, they saw Arbery running down Burford Drive.

In the report, McMichael says they attempted to cut off Arbery, but he turned around and began running back in the other direction.

McMichael and his son continued to follow Arbery, they shouted “stop, stop, we want to talk to you.” McMichael pulled up next to Arbery. Travis McMichael got out of the truck with the shotgun.

According to statements, that’s when McMichael says Arbery attacked his son and the two men started fighting over the gun at which point Travis McMichael fired a shot. A second later there was a second shot.

But now that the video has surfaced, prosecutors are now singing a different tune, claiming they will present the case before a grand jury, according to the Associated Press.

“I am of the opinion that the case should be presented to the grand jury of Glynn County for consideration of criminal charges against those involved in the death of Mr. Arbery,” said outside prosecutor Tom Durden, who was brought in to investigate the case to show there is no conflict of interest.

The video is embedded at the top of the story and posted below as well.

UPDATE: The father and son have been arrested on murder charges.

Of course they won't release the video they claim to have that incriminates him. It obviously doesn't exist. They've sold that story now and they know they can't back it up. So they have to put up the wall and say they won't release it.
Absolute corruption.
He was hunted and killed like a sport.
Disgusting.

I live in Brunswick and wanted to comment on this story. There are many whites (including myself) who are outraged about this shooting. I want everyone to know that we aren't all racist in this town. The police in this town are very corrupt and basically put felony cases on everyone (black, white, whoever) on anyone who is arrested and they don't arrest people in the good ol boys network. After reviewing the video, the background of the victim (previous gun and theft charge, if I was on a jury I would have to vote guilty on agg assault and or manslaughter but not guilty on murder. I think the outcome of this trial will be the same. Drop the murder charge, let them plead guilty to agg assault and let them do up to 20 years. Hate to say it but thats the only way justice will happen.

Tida, we don't all feel that way. MANY white people feel that lynching was wrong and murder, no matter who is murdered and who is the murderer, is totally wrong. We expect our cops to act honestly, but we're disappointed almost every time. We want to live peacefully just like you want to, whether its in a gated community or a very racially mixed area like where I live. We all want the best for our kids, and our young white men and women are raped or shot dead too, tho not at the rate yours are. MOST of us are, like you, sick of the violence, the injustice, the overt racism & misogyny.
Here's to the hope that both members of the goober family are tried and sentenced to life in prison in the general population.

In order to do the "citizen's arrest" thing, they must have SEEN this man commit a crime, specifically a felony. Looking at a partially built house doesn't qualify so there goes that pitiful excuse for murder. They said he was the aggressor. Let me ask those of you in here-if you were jogging and unarmed, and 2 goobers came after you in a truck and 1 got out with a shotgun, intent upon shooting you, aren't you going to engage in trying to take the gun away to save your own life? That makes the GOOBERS the aggressors, not the victim.
This attachment says a LOT about Georgia.

This was so clear that these white men committed murder there's nothing about this video says it was self defense, when they serch the black young body, no weapon was found. The craziest thing, it was not even there home that they burglarized, for them to take justice into their hand, it was an excuse, planned to committed a crime that day. But if we black floks start killing their family, their children as well, so that they could feel the pain. But i forgot, to white people we have no feelings, we don't bleed like them, we are to be treated like animals. I don't condone violence but this have to stop, these criminals have to watch their child to be brutal murdered for no reason as well. They need to understand we grieve for I loss the same way they grieve for their loss, we feel pain and anger for I love ones the same way they feel pain and anger, so how dare someone to think different. How dare them to take Justice into their own hand, claiming that it was self defense. Georgia need to make a difference and set an example, this is not Okay to take Justice into your hand. If that's the case everybody needs to take Justice into thire hand, EVERYONE'S LIFE MATTERS!!!. Georgia need to make a difference, a change need to be made, set an example enough is enough!.

Instead of calling the police so that he could be questioned, they took the law into their own hands. They admitted to basically stalking, following and then causing confrontation while THEY carried a firearm. That in itself IS PREMEDITATED! The father asked his son for assistance, they hop in their truck to pursue. I guess they called their buddy up to record the kill. After watching the docu-series about the missing childrens of Atlanta, it is OBVIOUS that blacks need to take our Wakanda back EVEN BY FORCE, ARMS UP!

Let me make sure I understand this.
I come at you, in public, with a shotgun.
You try and take the shotgun from me.
I shoot you, in self defense.
Did I get that correct?

Jackie Johnson, the district attorney for Glynn County, recused herself from the case because Gregory McMichael worked as an investigator in her office. He retired a year ago.

and people are wondering WHY the DA doesn't want to charge the MURDERERS for there crimes!

So true! But common sense is obviously something they do not have! The whole scene reminded me of KKK hunting & killing. They just didn't have the hoods on.

I say. since they want to keep killing un-armed Native Americans, we should all arm ourselves, and when we are approached just start opening fire. We have to start protecting ourselves, since none of the Europeans seems to think we are our lives don't matter. we'll see what happens when you all are murdered in the streets. Then maybe the law will work for us as well, or there will be a lot of bloodshed.

Two black men follow and try to cut off a white man jogging down the street..... they were yelling telling him to stop they wanted to talk to him. They got beside him and one jumped out of the truck with a shotgun..... an argument or words were exchanged while the white man was trying to run away, there was a physical altercation.... the black man shot the white man twice during the tussle killing the white man..... both black men claimed self defense and said they thought the white man had burglarized a home.......

How does the story sound now??????
Those men and the third man should all be arrested and charged with murder

This was a clear case of murder. Premeditated murder. The deceased was unarmed and posed no immediate threat. The grand jury will indict.

The Proscecutor that had the case a few weeks should be sued and fired from office because he clearly was trying to cover up wrongdoing.

Anyone who leaves their gun in sight in a vehicle AND unlocked is responsible for what happens to that gun and who is injured or killed. And should be locked up. Once you own a gun, you are responsible for whatever damages it incurs. So, we have a former officer who ignores all his training and experience and then he kills an innocent person. PRISON FOR LIFE. Failure to secure their weapon, chasing and murdering an innocent person . . . Life for both of them. They knew better and they did it anyway. Now, we need a grand jury to look back at all the cases the officer filed while on duty in the past. WE HAVE PROOF NOW THAT HE MAY HAVE ACTED OUT OF PREJUDICE ALL DURING HIS CAREER. I still don't understand why the father of George Zimmerman, a Judge, who raised a wildly prejudicial son hasn't had all the cases he presided on, EXAMINED AND LOOKING FOR THIS SAME PREJUDICIAL ATTITUDES IN HIS RULINGS!!! Florida may have sentenced thousands of innocent people who are still in prison.

looks like self defense. when two armed thugs are pointing guns at you. you have every right to fight back! had one of the thugs not been a cop, they both would have been charged with murder without even a blink of an eye.

it looks like ex-cops can still get in on the game! killology at it's best!
