Ex-Cop Wanted on Child Porn Charges Kills Himself

An ex-lawman who ran a child porn site on Tumblr called "nastydaddysblog" killed himself as authorities closed in.

A former police officer who worked for the Bexar County Sheriff's Office as a detention officer shot and killed himself October 31 as the FBI and San Antonio police close in on his home to serve an arrest warrant for child porn.

Ruben Rene Huerta, 46, used his badge numbers as a password for his cell phone apps to unlock and access various images of child porn in his possession.

Huerta operated a child porn blog on Tumblr dubbed "nastydaddysblog," according to an affidavit for his arrest.

A federal task force that investigates crimes against children began investigating the case about a month after a tip was sent to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding 42 images of children on the Tumblr blog.

Images linked to Huerta's blog contained girls and boys ages five to 10 years old.

Authorities linked the internet activity on Huerta's online accounts to his work place and home address, according to KSAT.

On October 24, Huerta was questioned at work and told detectives he began watching child pornography and using crystal meth after he was fired by San Antonio Park Police because it was "taboo" and gave him a "rush."

"Huerta expressed that he began using crystal methamphetamine and accessing child pornography after he was terminated from the San Antonio Park Police, in order to maintain a ‘rush’ and because the material was ‘taboo," the affidavit said.

However, Huerta wasn't not arrested that day because the FBI doesn't take suspects in child porn cases into immediate custody unless there is evidence of a "hands-on offense" or if minors are in the home.

"They take time to put together a complaint and affidavit with strong probable cause," Special Agent Michelle Lee, spokeswoman for the FBI in San Antonio explained.

"They had also planned other investigative actions to bolster the case.”

A federal warrant for the arrest of Huerta was obtained October 30.

But he eluded FBI agents after they arrived at his parents' house at around 4:45 p.m. to take him into custody October 31.

"Agents went to the residence in preparation for his arrest,” Lee said.

"He did run into the residence. Shortly thereafter, agents heard gunfire."

San Antonio police and an FBI SWAT team were called and Huerta was was found deceased with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest.

According to his arrest affidavit, Huerta worked with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office from 1993-1995 and the San Antonio Park Police from 1995-2009,
