The remake of “Snow White” has polluted the planet more than the last “Fast and Furious”

Released on March 19, 2025 in France, Snow White is the last Disney film in real shots. He features actress Rachel Zegler, in the main role, and Gal Gadot – already known for taking on Wonder Woman’s costume – in the role of the wicked queen slightly jealous. While the studio likes to advocate harmony with nature on the screen, its recent productions seem far from this reality.

According to the British newspaper The Guardian, the filming of remakes in real shots of Snow White and The little mermaid generated a lot of CO2. According to the company’s internal documents, the remake of the adventures of the princess and the seven dwarfs, filmed at the Pinewood Studios near London, issued 3,153 tonnes of equivalent co -equivalent2more than the last Fast and Furiousyet not stingy in large displacements and explosions.

By adding The little mermaid (5,127 tonnes), the total climbs to 8,279.6 tonnes, more than annual emissions from Birmingham or Luton airports in the United Kingdom. These figures do not take into account all the indirect emissions, linked to the products and services used during production. Note, however, that airports also exclude this type of emission from their official reports.

Minimal ecological efforts

Founding of fairy tale Snow Whitewidely carried out outdoors, required many generators, large consumers of fuel. Disney nevertheless stresses having used hybrid generators, partially powered by batteries and using the Pinewood green electrical network since 2020. Chartered flights have also been privileged and electric cars rented to limit the impact of the team’s movements.

But that was not enough to lighten the carbon footprint of these films. A bitter addition, especially since, despite an investment of $ 260 million (237 million euros), Snow White is … an oven. The film is expected to lose nearly $ 115 million (105 million euros) to Californian studios, after a quasi-general hostile reception, powered by various controversies that are not always justified.

These encrypted revelations question the environmental policies of the studios, especially when they benefit from reimbursements from the British government, in the form of aid, sometimes up to 25.5% of their expenses. Disney received nearly 95 million pounds (111 million euros) of public money for the production of Snow White and The little mermaid.
