Do you lose your hair and do you worry? A new study may have found an amazing solution

Sugar has rather bad reputation. We love it, even if we know very well that consuming it in too large quantities is not good for our teeth, our weight, our health, in short, we are wary. Yet he could play an unexpected role by helping us to fight against … baldness. Alopecia, which mainly affects men, but also some women, would be reversible, tells us an article by Popular Mechanics.

This is in any case the meaning of a study published in the journal Frontiers in Pharmacology in June 2024, led by researchers from the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom and Comsats University in Pakistan. From an experience carried out on mice, scientists discovered that a natural sugar, called 2-deoxy-d-ribose (2DDR), favored hair regrowth. Would hope be allowed? Will we one day see our frontal gulfs get back without going through a transplant in Türkiye?

Calvitism, also called androgenetic alopecia, would concern around 50% of men. Sheila Macneil, professor emeritus of tissue genius at the University of Sheffield, confides in connection with the study: “Our research suggests that the response to the treatment of hair loss could be as simple as the use of natural deoxyribosis sugar to stimulate blood irrigation of hair follicles and thus promote hair growth.”

Hair growth depends on blood influx in the hair follicles of the scalp, allowing hair to push. But you need candy will not be enough to stimulate their regrowth. The team of scientists spent almost eight years studying the effect of sugar on the healing of wounds in mice, noting that it stimulated the formation of new blood vessels.

To their surprise, the researchers were also able to record an accelerated regrowth of the hair around the treated areas, compared to the others. To get a clean heart, they conducted additional experiences on other mice to check their observations.

They then found that applying a low dose of natural sugar stimulated the formation of new blood vessels, accelerating hair regrowth in a few weeks.

It is a real message of hope for all those who fear seeing their hair crash over the years. If there are drugs to combat alopecia, such as minoxidil and finasteride, they can sometimes cause unwanted side effects or be deemed unsuitable for women.

For Muhammed Yar, associate professor at Comsats University and author of the study, we must consider the results of this research as a potential alternative in the near future: “Pro-angiogenic deoxyribose sugar is natural, inexpensive and stable, and we have shown that it can be administered via various gels or promising dressings. This makes it an interesting candidate to explore more for the treatment of hair loss in humans. ”
