When Ukraine targets the heads: an air strike kills thirty Russian officers and beheads a whole regiment

The war in Ukraine, started in 2014 – with the annexation of Crimea and Russian support to separatists in Donbass in the east of the country – became widespread eight years later, in 2022, in the entire Ukrainian territory. The conflict is now part of a war of position, with an almost frozen front and where each camp nibbles what it can hoping to use and break the opponent. In this game, Russia is very strong, with a reservoir of men much more important than Ukraine.

Forbes magazine, through its journalist specializing in military affairs, David Ax, reports that the Ukrainian army bombed, on April 7, 2025, a Russian bunker in Kherson, in the south of the country, and it is not a surprise. A Ukrainian Air Force Hunter-a Mikoyan-Gourevitch Mig-29-has indeed managed to blow up a strong enemy place in which no less than thirty members of the staff of 81 were found.e Russian self -propelled artillery regiment. These officers were all killed.

Integrated into the 70e Motorized rifle division, itself subject to 18e Army Interarmes, this regiment plays a key role by providing a significant firepower to the Russian forces deployed on the left bank of the Dniepr river, crossing the Kherson region.

Challenge the Russian digital advantage

As a reminder, Kherson, chief town of the region, fell into the hands of the Russians during the first months of the large-scale invasion launched in February 2022. But in November of the same year, the Ukrainian army signed a resounding victory by managing to take it back. The Kremlin does not hear it from this ear and the Ukrainian forces fear that a large -scale offensive is in preparation, with the aim of winning the city, whose location is highly strategic.

Kherson will be difficult to defend, especially since the main efforts of the Ukrainian staff are currently concentrated in the east of the territory, where the two camps engage in particularly harsh fights. The numerical superiority of the Russian forces in the region, combined with the proximity of Crimea – which serves as a logistical and operational rear base – alimilizes the fears of a new major offensive.

In this context, hitting Russian bunkers appears to be an effective strategy to place the aggressor in an unfavorable position on the ground by “beheading”. By destroying the command centers and neutralizing the officers, the Ukrainian army weakens the digital advantage of Russia by disturbing its chain of command.
